چکیده

Abstract. We introduce a concept of similarity between vertices of directed graphs. Let GA and GB be two directed graphs with respectively nA and nB vertices. We define a nB × nA similarity matrix S whose real entry sij expresses how similar vertex j (in GA) is to vertex i (in GB) : we say that sij is their similarity score. The similarity matrix can be obtained as the limit of the normalized even iterates of S(k+1) = BS(k)A +B S(k)A where A and B are adjacency matrices of the graphs and S(0) is a matrix whose entries are all equal to one. In the special case where GA = GB = G, the matrix S is square and the score sij is the similarity score between the vertices i and j of G. We point out that Kleinberg’s “hub and authority” method to identify web-pages relevant to a given query can be viewed as a special case of our definition in the case where one of the graphs has two vertices and a unique directed edge between them. In analogy to Kleinberg, we show that our similarity scores are given by the components of a dominant eigenvector of a non-negative matrix. Potential applications of our similarity concept are numerous. We illustrate an application for the automatic extraction of synonyms in a monolingual dictionary.

COSPECTRALITY MEASURES OF GRAPHS WITH AT MOST SIX VERTICES

Cospectrality of two graphs measures the differences between the ordered spectrum of these graphs in various ways. Actually, the origin of this concept came back to Richard Brualdi's problems that are proposed in cite{braldi}: Let $G_n$ and $G'_n$ be two nonisomorphic simple graphs on $n$ vertices with spectra$$lambda_1 geq lambda_2 geq cdots geq lambda_n ;;;text{and};;; lambda'_1 geq lambda'_2...

Introduction: Graph theoretical analysis of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) data has provided new measures of mapping human brain in vivo. Of all methods to measure the functional connectivity between regions, Linear Correlation (LC) calculation of activity time series of the brain regions as a linear measure is considered the most ubiquitous one. The strength of the dependence obl...

Data mining, also known as knowledge discovery in database, is the process to discover unknown knowledge from a large amount of data. Text mining is to apply data mining techniques to extract knowledge from unstructured text. Text clustering is one of important techniques of text mining, which is the unsupervised classification of similar documents into different groups. The most important step...

Vulnerability Measure of a Network - a Survey

In this paper we discuss about tenacity and its properties in stability calculation. We indicate relationships between tenacity and connectivity, tenacity and binding number, tenacity and toughness. We also give good lower and upper bounds for tenacity. Since we are primarily interested in the case where disruption of the graph is caused by the removal of a vertex or vertices (and the resulting...

Graph Similarity Using Interfering Quantum Walks

We consider how continuous-time quantum walks can be used to give a measure of graph similarity. Our approach is to simulate the quantum walk on the two graphs in parallel by using an auxiliary graph that incorporates both graphs. The auxiliary graph allows quantum interference to take place between the two walks. Modeling the resultant interference amplitudes, which result from the differences...
